Gustave, Goede dag! Here's a news blurb. Today's meeting between Chernomyrdin and Albright in Washington, DC hopefully will be fruitful in finding a peaceful solution.... Sincerely, Doug F.

1403 GMT, 990503 – The Italian
newspaper "Corriere della Sera"
reported today that Italian police in the
Adriatic port city of Ancona have
seized a large amount of weapons
designed for the KLA. It said that
since last month, police have
confiscated about 30 tons of
weapons, including anti-aircraft and
anti-tank missiles, rocket launchers,
machine guns and 1,000 western
made mortars. The cargo had
officially been declared as a German
Catholic Caritas charity humanitarian
aid shipment designed for Kosovar
refugees.

The latest cache of weapons was
found hidden in three trucks with
Bosnian numberplates on April 12.
The three trucks had been laden in
Sarajevo and where ferried from Split,
Croatia, across the Adriatic Sea to
Ancona from where they were due to
beshipped on to the Albanian port of
Durres. The majority of the weapons
are reported to have originated from
Russia, Croatia and Yugoslavia. The
mortars, however, were said to have
been stolen from a NATO arsenal in
Germany.
