To my predecessor chaz: Couldn't agree more. It took me years to see clearly that concentrating on the best performing stocks, narrowing and narrowing down to fewer and fewer star performers is the way to go. This was in my Intel, Microsoft, Cisco days. (And of course well before the Gorilla Game was written)

I then decided to narrow down into leading edge technologies and concentrate in leaders in them. After considerable research a few years ago I decided coming from a networking base (Cisco et al), that a broad data delivery system which I saw telecom becoming with the movement toward the convergence of networking and communicating was were I would devote my time, effort and money.

Over time it seemed to me that wireless and fiberoptics were the best bets within the overall telecom/networking data field. This is how I came to the Q. And to JDSU. I still spread my net widely to test and learn to spot future winners within wireless and fiberoptics, but that is with a minor part of the total. And just so I pay real attention - given my limited attention span. :-)

Agree that broad diversification, while superficially "safer" is fooliish for all but the most risk adverse and least willing to learn.

Strongly support your view.
