I have a Dell. It's my second Dell. Both machines (hardware) have been completely trouble free. The first, now ten years old, is still running at a friend's house. At first, I needed to call tech support quite a bit because I'm new at Win98. Some calls were in the wee hours of the night, some on weekends, and some during normal business hours: not much waiting on hold; good (polite) people to deal with, and accurate answers.

Some observations...

I have a Zip drive. I'd get a CD burner instead.

I have a DVD drive. I'd save the money and get a CD-ROM.

I have 128meg. I'm very happy with my system's performance.

I don't use my system for FAX, so I can't comment on the built-in Fax-Modem beyond that it works OK for connecting with my ISP.

I have a 366 processor. I don't think I'd notice much difference if it was much faster or slower.

I use Partition Magic and Drive Image and consider them essential. I ordered my system with Norton's utilities, and use them daily.

I own Dell stock. This may have influenced my buying decision(s). It also may influence my recommendations too, but at this point, I'm just relating my experience. I understand Gateway makes an excellent machine priced at good value too.

Hope this helps, PW.
