OT - My father was in Okinawa at the time the bombs dropped. They were rooting the Japanese out of caves one by one, a very costly undertaking. There was no doubt among those doing the job that Japan itself would present the same type of defense that they had encountered on every island to date. But Japan was much larger with many more people to deal with.
