3G was all about additional spectrum, not services.

Now that everyone acknowledges ITU-R is bankrupt, we wonder why we allowed the State Departments of member nations to control broadband access.

4G needs several hundred megabits of backhaul, where 3G was sated with OC-3.

802.16a is the hype of 2003, and in 2004 802.11 will eat its meal. 802.16a/e will not underpin 4G, as by the time a 4G Operating Model is developed, transparent bridging will provide the backhaul.
