Thanks for the informative post. I guess it really doesn't matter what you call the payments from MSFT to CTXS. As I understand it, the payments were for allowing MSFT to incorporate CTXS designed code in their NT product. MSFT was unable to develop this code by themselves, so it was more than just a marketing agreement. Like you, I'm inclined to believe it's not very important, but the market will probably see it as a negative. Lots of investor "analysis" doesn't get much further than the headlines. Payments might be involved in any new deal if MSFT still needs help with the code, but as I mentioned I think the odds are slightly against this. The thin client world is getting bigger, with or without MSFT. Personally, I think it will help MSFT a lot in the long run by giving customers more choices inside a mostly MSFT framework. Perhaps MSFT hasn't quite come to grips with the reasons why many are unhappy with present MSFT based computing. Linux is another approach to solving the reliability - cost of ownership problem, but this involves leaving the Microsoft universe. Bill Gates is too smart not to realize this eventually.
Of course all of the above is just my opinion, perhaps worth about what it cost you <g>
