A surprise cut can catch the shorts and cause financial ruin in the futures snake pit. However, this time there was plenty of warning. I know a futures trader who refused to be short in the afternoon once the rumors started circulating about an emergency rate cut. She said she would rather forgo a profit than be reamed by Greenspan. The last time they did this there were many that were taken out of the market. 250 dollars a point per contract can add up fast.....but I am sure ALL of Anthony's people did just fine :-)
