It's really amazing how well it runs on a x86 platform. As for the drivers, I know all to well, however Sun has been very responsive to keeping driver updates on a fairly regular basis. It wasn't more than a couple of months after the Adaptec Ultra SCSI board came out and they had drivers. Sun could really cut hardware costs and compete head to head with Microsoft for x86 boxes, high powered stuff that is.

Did you read last months Sun Expert Magazine, Sun now offers an Ultra Sparc in an ATX motherboard configuration with PCI slots. They even said they are considering going to 64 bit PCI slots, which would up the throughput to something around 528MBits, which surpasses even their own 200MBits SBUS slots and about 2.5 times faster that standard PCI.

All told it looks like they want the box, and the case it comes in, plus your realatively cheap PCI adapter cards!

So Microsoft's moving up the food chain and Sun reaching down a bit, either way Intel's winning more sales.
