HMT Announces New Customer Qualification Now Shipping to SyQuest

FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 1998--HMT Technology (NASDAQ:HMTT - news) today announced
that it has been qualified by SyQuest and has begun shipping media for use in SyQuest's SparQ removable 1GB cartridge
drive. HMT designed the media for use in removable applications with proximity heads, with special attention paid to the
head-disk interface, providing higher reliability in an environment that can often experience higher contamination levels than
traditional disk drives.
