Why was it puzzling? If 400 million recently enriched chinese didn't want the american way of life and would just go back to the huts and a bowl of rice then we could all have hummers over in America while we suck down our hardees monster burger. I am sure Professor Krugman does not want to move into a hut and wear a fig leaf so that coconut can improve her life just as I am sure the General is not going to trade in his yacht and maid so that Krugman can have his nice lobster and martini every sunday - we can't all be Generals and Kings. Back when I was a kid there was 5 people at the dinner table and only 2 biscuits - nice polite people starved no matter how much we wished the harsh realities away. Secretary Snow is too busy defacing dollar bills on national tv to do anything really beneficial. He was on CNBC today and he said Energy is definitely the key thing - there just isn't enough for Krugman and Coconut both - who should get the better lifestyle? I guess Krugman feels the USA should. Maybe if China would start respecting some property rights and quit stealing Piglets Big Movie and let thier citizens have more free speech the USA would play nice - hehe. Remember when we were helping the drowning dying people in the tsunami with troops and ships the slants had all thier ships with russia practicing how to beat the USA in naval warfare - some nieghbor!!
