I understand that Republicans are angry that hand counts are only occurring in Democratic counties. That is happening because Gore asked for hand recounts and Bush did not.

I have not been following the counting all that closely, but I happened upon this point the other day at slate.com.

And I cannot accept Michael's logic that it is unfair to recount in counties that used punch cards (which everyone concedes produces more errors than other systems) simply because more such counties favored Gore.

It suggests that there is a correlation between states using punch cards and the states being recounted. If so, there's a certain logic to that. Of course, it's probably coincidental, but still interesting, if true. It would be nice if there were just a tad of logic in this as a partial counterbalance to the partisanship.
