MM:

My system “hangs” at shutdown at least 10% of the time. I do not have any Norton software. I have almost arrived at the point where, instead of Start/shutdown, I use Ctrl/Alt/Delete, then click Shutdown...it almost always resolves the problem...but I wish I could find an actual “fix”. A lot of good things have been said about Norton...I use McAfee anti-virus and have just been hesitant to change, or add the “Doctor”.

Regarding “connection” quality. I think it is an underestimated source of problems. With Audio/Video equipment, it is usually apparent in the degradation of picture or sound quality. Not so with PCs, but any time there is an intermittent operational ability with a hardware device, I think it is worth checking. Usually, just the process of removing the connector a couple of times will work. Sometimes I use a coating product called “Tweak”, which seems to work well, (it is a little like a “nail polish” in a little bottle with a small brush applicator). Gold connections would be preferred, but that is obviously not too practical in PCs for price reasons. (I would be interested in Wily's opinion on this. As I remember, he runs his PC with no cover anyway...making access a snap. Road-Runnerus Digestus ...are you out there?<g>)
