thank you! Am forwarding all to CW!
He worked on a robot AI project for two years at Rice (and actually was published-- something to do with algorithms). We thought he might go into the field but no.

This world is leaving me behind. Young people seem so smart-- although as I was just writing to Maurice,
not all of them.

Another braindead sample from today, which really was a standout day- I need to start taking notes

The director asked a soprano why she wasn't singing, and she said "I can't read this music. It's written in Hebrew or something."

And the director stared at her and finally said, "you have it upside down, and that's the percussion part on the last page."

It made me think of Maurice's comment about all that wasted accumulation of knowledge- and how much but how little kids have absorbed at 15. We sang a Gloria (in excelsis) and after, someone said, What language was that? The director said, Latin. And someone else said, I thought no one spoke that anymore.
