Since there has been a lot of talk about TCPI on this thread, I thought it might be useful to share the following. I talked with TCPI via the phone today, and there were several interesting points. First, clinical trials are starting. Second, only a very small quaantity of ISF actually reaches the patch. The patch has a very high affinity for glucose, higher than ISF. Therefor, the patch opens the pores in the skin, and the glucose by itself is attracted to the patch and binds with an agent, resulting in a color change. They said that the actual amount of ISF that actually reaches the patch is confidential, but that it is "very, very small". Third, they described their meter, that reads the amount of glucose in the patch, as being very precise. Fourth, they openly invite anyone to come to their facility and have their own glucose read using their system. Fifth, the reason they have been so secretive is that critical patents had not been filed until recently. They said that they would be more forthcoming with info about their system at this point, but, of course, still have some "trade secrets". Finally, they seem to be very confident that their system will be approved by the FDA. I thought you all might be interested in this info.
