The whole thing is ridiculous. <Politicos want veto of cell phone import ban > The USA shoots itself in the foot with the ITC which is supposed to protect against FOREIGN companies and countries, not QUALCOMM.

If QUALCOMM did wrong, which remains doubtful, there are plenty of legal processes within the normal judicial system for Broadcom to be protected and compensated.

King George II should kick it over to the Federal Courts and Supreme Court, which recently ruled on obviousness, to sort out, to get the patent system right and ensure innovation, competition, and protection of property rights.

The patent system is being abused as a protection racket for lucky people who patent some dopey idea which anyone could think of at no cost and strike gold on enormous cyberspace economies of scale.

The ITC wrote a lot of pages of guff, but not to any sensible effect. Broadcom can easily be compensated if due by monetary damages payments.

Foreign companies [namely Nokia] will be whooping with delight at QUALCOMM being booted by the ITC. They will make a lot of money. American companies will not. USA consumers will pay for the decision. That was NOT the plan of the ITC originally.

PS: It's amusing that JohnG ranted about Euroserfs while the USA government is coming up with a Kremlin-style plan for 700MHz, with some guy in some government department deciding what devices people want and that should be developed and sold and who should get the spectrum and while the ITC is beating up QUALCOMM in favour of Euroserfs.
