I hope not. What I hope is that the cost of really big holes in the ground will result in really big advances in technology that will preclude the need for them.

Perhaps regardless of the esthetics, I feel confident that --- eventually --- all the oil and all the coal (recoverable, that is) that is banked in the ground will EVENTUALLY be exploited.
