<Under GWB's leadership, many in the US FINALLY woke up. During Clinton's administration, they, and therefore most of us, just thought we could call the terrorists criminals, and deal with them that way. No one really ever thought they would hit us in this country. >
I don't think President AWOL can claim any credit for the USA finally waking up. Heck, even I woke up the morning of the 911 attack because the phone went to tell me what was going on.
President AWOL had the intelligence given to him that an attack was planned, and went and played golf and had another holiday. There was information that Al Q was learning to fly. I had in earlier years thought airline security was absurd, with the cockpit available to anyone to walk in.
I think it's fair to say the terrorists are criminals. There aren't many governments doing a lot to harbour them and give them financial and other support. I dare say some Saudi oil sheiks including some bin Ladens are happy enough with Islamic Jihad. Taking over Saudi Arabia would be excellent for the bin Ladens.
I enjoyed reading The Arabian Nights decades ago, but thought it was just ancient history. It's all quite Shakespearian. Especially the Saddam story, with sons in law murdered, son against father, etc, etc... and everyone ends up dead or raving. Saddam = Hamlet?
<No one really ever thought they would hit us in this country. > Why not? They already had! Twin Tower attack number one was a decade earlier. What does Condoleezza get a salary for? To think about what attacks might make sense to enemy agents.
Plus ca change.
