I FINALLY succeeded in updating Quicken in my wife's computer without running into the "you do not have permission" monster. It's not enough to make the folder sharable to be viewed by "anyone". You have to go to EACH file that gets updated daily and permission it for "anyone".

This is sheer paranoia - let ME decide what level of protection I need - if there's a disaster, I'll accept responsibility. The nanny state unleashed, in Redmond yet.

I'm not sure I see the utility of Homegroup, at least not yet. So I can see her media files. So what? What I want is to run her computer from my desk and vice versa.

(BTW, the struggle to overcome the permissions monster was really not necessary - what I'd been doing was to transfer the files to a USB stick and loading them into her computer from it. I was just too lazy to walk the few yards to her machine, and, anyway, I got stubborn. I'm gonna do this if it kills me!)
