I read it was a Smith & Wesson MP AR-15 - nice gun, relatively cheap - and is of course .223.

I've never owned a Beta C-mag (wanted one) - too many stories about how they jam - and watching friends that have them fiddle with them at the range - good thing he didn't know that. I've switched to Mapgul 30 rounders, very nice mags, never had a single issue - I like the little window on the side so you can see how may rounds are in the magazine and they come in 20's if that's your preference or compete and they're required for that and dropping them on the ground there's little chance they end up rusting.

I still think the 20 round magazine can be exchanged in a few seconds
Especially if he had a vest with magazine pockets and had practiced mag swaps - good thing the alert gun range owner thought he was too weird to allow on the premises.

Like you said too bad no one was armed that could have fired back. Given the movie and it's likely audience chances were pretty low someone would be armed and I generally follow those store policies about not carrying when they post a sign - will have to reconsider and see exactly what the fine is if I break a store rule in my State.
