SOUTHERNERA RESOURCES LIMITED
- Production Commences 2nd March at Klipspringer - Meinhardskraal Fissures Diamondiferous
TORONTO, March 6 /CNW/ - SouthernEra Resources Limited (SUF-TSE) is pleased to announce that production at the new 100 tonne per hour dense medium separation plant at its Klipspringer project commenced, on budget and on schedule, on 2nd March, 1998. Production for the first 4 days was 40, 176, 256 and 296 carats, respectively. The average stone size for the production from the Sugarbird blow is 0.38 carats per stone. The five largest gem stones weighed 11.36, 10.97, 9.51, 8.36 and 7.65 carats, and the next 32 stones averaged 4.16 carats per stone. Only a very small percentage of the stones is of industrial quality. SouthernEra today received results from a split core sample which intersected two fissures on the farm Meinhardskraal, north of Marsfontein. The first fissure had 9 microdiamonds in a 1.6kg sample which gives a normalized weight of 3.48 million ochtacarats(x) per 50kg (70 carats per 100 tonnes). The second parallel fissure, gave 4 microdiamonds from a 2.6kg sample, which gives a normalized weight of 5.2 million ochtacarats per 50kg (104 carats per 100 tonnes). These results are very encouraging, but because of the very small sample sizes, should be viewed with caution. Seven of the 13 diamonds are white, 1 is grey and 5 are brown. Kimberlite fissures on Meinhardskraal have now been drilled over a total strike of 1.7 kilometres. It is planned to take a 20 - 50 tonne bulk sample from the fissures over the next few days using an excavator. Elsewhere, an accelerated exploration program is underway in our continuing efforts to discover new kimberlites.
(x) An Ochtacarat equals 1 x 10(-8) carat.
