Digital Microwave Corporation Announces Release of New Low- to Medium-Capacity Radio Platform
Initial Orders Received in Korea and Sri Lanka
SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital Microwave Corporation (Nasdaq: DMIC - news), announces the release of its new DXR(TM) 700 compact, high-performance radio platform, with $2 million in cumulative initial orders received from customers in Korea and Sri Lanka.

A compact radio solution, the new DXR(TM) 700 is a split, indoor/outdoor mounting radio. The radio operates across a range of capacities from 2x2 Mbps to 34 Mbps, using efficient 16 and 64 QAM modulation. A set of advanced features, including forward error correction and an adaptive equalizer, target medium- and long-distance link requirements. Optional errorless diversity protection switching delivers excellent performance under the most difficult radio transmission conditions.

The DXR 700 platform covers multiple frequencies, initially from 2 GHz to 8 GHz, with the potential for frequency expansion. Production shipments of the 3.5 GHz band started at the end of 1998.

For MTN Networks, the GSM cellular operator in Sri Lanka, the DXR 700 split-mount configuration and synthesized frequency were key selection factors. MTN Chief Executive Officer Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, commented further, ''The most important reason for selecting the DXR 770 was its built-in counter fading measures for paths over long distances and hard terrain.'' Deliveries to MTN are scheduled to begin in April 1999.

The DXR 700 was developed at Digital Microwave Corporation's Long Haul Division located in Wellington, New Zealand. The radio is an alternative to Digital Microwave Corporation's Quantum radio product and an addition to the DXR 100 and DXR 200 product offerings. DXR 700 was introduced and exhibited in Digital Microwave exhibit stands at the 1998 Expo Comm trade shows in Argentina and China, and at Telecomp show in Vietnam. It will also be exhibited at the Expo Comm trade show in Mexico this month, and at the CeBIT (Germany) and Telexpo (Brazil) trade shows in March 1999.

Headquartered in San Jose, California, Digital Microwave Corporation designs, manufactures, and markets advanced wireless solutions for worldwide telephone network interconnection and access. Transmitting and receiving multiple digital lines, Digital Microwave's high-performance systems carry voice, data, and digitized video signals across a full spectrum of frequencies and capacities.
