Win CE 2.0 Handhelds To Roll Out In Lukewarm Market

3Com, Microsoft's chief competitor in the market, steadfastly
denied resurfacing rumors that it is developing a Windows CE
2.0-based version of its market-leading PalmPilot device, which
uses a proprietary software platform.

In related news, 3Com is planning a holiday promotion in the
retail channel that will reward buyers of the $299 PalmPilot with
a free gift, said 3Com vice president of marketing Ed Colligan.
(The professional version is priced at $399). He refused to
divulge new features and enhancements planned for the next
version of PalmPilot's proprietary software in 1998, but said
that enhancements for the Macintosh are in order.
