Obama Embraces The Islamist Enemy Within

news.investors.com

The Obama Record

The Muslim Brotherhood doesn't just threaten the Mideast. It threatens America. Instead of protecting the nation from these Islamofascists, the president has embraced them.

Five patriots on Capitol Hill have cast political correctness aside and warned of Brotherhood plants inside the Obama administration. Led by House intelligence committee member Michele Bachmann, these GOP lawmakers have asked key agencies dealing with national security to investigate possible infiltration by agents working for a subversive force not unlike communism.

The old Washington media have traduced them as "McCarthyites." Without any independent reporting, they've declared the government free of Islamist moles, despite troubling ties between several Muslim appointees with high-level security clearance and the Brotherhood.

They've
also certified the Brotherhood a benign organization interested in helping widows and orphans — even though the FBI director has testified that "elements of the Muslim Brotherhood both here and overseas have supported terrorism."

Such whitewashing is the result of effective influence operations run by the Muslim Brotherhood to control how we see our enemies and speak about them. These operations are politically sophisticated.

Earlier last week on CNN, for example, host Anderson Cooper brought on a guest identified simply as a "professor of religion" to talk about the issue. John Esposito of Georgetown University quickly brushed aside concerns about Islamist penetration of the State and Homeland Security departments.

Then he argued it was "racist" to question the loyalty of Muslim officials working inside the agencies, despite growing evidence they've had undue influence over Mideast policy and even leaked highly sensitive intelligence documents.

Viewers weren't told that Esposito has a long track record of supporting Islamists. In fact, he's been described by former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy as the country's biggest non-Muslim "apologist" for the Brotherhood. As director of the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, he's also a paid mouthpiece for Saudi interests.

But his agenda was concealed as he and Cooper agreed the notion of infiltration was "absurd." They noted that Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano denies any Brotherhood penetration, and that the FBI supposedly has "looked into it and found nothing."

In fact, the FBI is so concerned about the Brotherhood's influence operations that it has, as official policy, refused to meet with the Council on American-Islamic Relations — which the bureau has identified in court documents and testimony as a U.S. front for Hamas and its parent the Muslim Brotherhood.

Still, Obama White House officials reportedly have met with CAIR hundreds of times over the past three years.

In 2007, CAIR and another Brotherhood front — the Islamic Society of North America, or ISNA — were named unindicted co-conspirators in the largest terror-finance conviction in U.S. history. They have been shielded from further prosecution by the Obama Justice Department.

In 2004, the FBI recovered a document from a Brotherhood leader's home across the Potomac that outlined a conspiracy to "destroy" the U.S. "from within." The document provided agents with a road map to the Brotherhood's terror-support network inside America, much of it based inside the Beltway.

The president knows about this radical insurgency but, for whatever reason, is actively trying to mainstream it.

Brotherhood fronts have virtually unfettered access to his administration. Obama is not only personally receptive to them, but is also actually allowing them to advise him and his security staff about outside threats related to Islam and even about the content of counterterrorism training manuals.

Bachmann and other members of the intelligence panel who have spoken out get the same briefings regarding the Brotherhood's U.S. operations. But they have arrived at starkly different conclusions about the threat the Brotherhood poses.

The "National Security Five," as Newt Gingrich calls them, know that the threat of Brotherhood infiltration is real.

Just from open-source reporting, we know that the former godfather of the Muslim Brotherhood in America — Abdurahman Alamoudi — infiltrated the State Department as a goodwill ambassador for Islam in the years leading up to 9/11. He's now behind bars for plotting terrorism.

Given this president's romanticized view of the Brotherhood, both at home and abroad, it's a legitimate question to ask if Muslims appointed by him received proper security clearance. Did the FBI turn up red flags in their background investigations that were ultimately ignored?

We could simply trust that they were properly vetted. But that would mean we'd have to trust this president and have faith that he has the country's best interests at heart, which is getting harder and harder to do.
