Jim:

"My best guess is that the P4 shortages are mostly bunk or speed specific and the OEMs and retailers are loaded to the gills with P4-SDRAM units and want to sell them off. Read, no room for XPs yet."

Agreed...

"This begs the question: Where are all the XPs going? (Assuming AMD is producing lots of XPs...)"

All is only about 4 million, which given the innumerable awards the Athy has garnered in its lifespan of 2 years coupled with "its unrivaled performance" isn't really all that surprising...

"The mantra around here is that AMD is selling a record number of chips this Q. I find this hard to believe.
OTOH, if they are then apparently they are doing it without retail shelf space...which would make it that much more amazing."

Believe it, Jim...The Athy's XP time has arrrived and is probably in only the initial phase of its broad acceptance as the chip with "unrivaled performance"...Lots and lots of room in North America for the Athy XP once it gains a foothold...INTC is fighting for its company's life to keep AMD out of North America, a fight, that may cost them many more $billions than has already been the case and a fight destined to result in defeat owing to the "unrivaled performance" that the Athy XP affords the consumer...
