"They will be competing with an Intel Celeron on a 300mm wafer with a dirt cheap die cost. AMD's price war will leave them losing money while Intel makes money"

Of course, that assumes that Intel will be selling many Celerons outside of the mobile market and possibly blade servers. Considering the price delta, there just won't be a whole lot of Celerons sold on the desktop, unless things go tremendously awry. Same for AMD and the Duron, except that they will be contracting those out and don't have to devote fab space to something that will only sell in small quantities...

"In 2002 AMD must be expecting F30 to be at capacity with TBs"

Now that goes pretty much with out saying, since Hammers are only expected to be sampling in 2002. Assuming they stick with their roadmap (I know, neither company is good about that), AMD should be shipping processors that are very close to the performance range that Intel will ship on the desktop. The scary thing from Intel's point of view is that AMD should also be shipping processors that clock at, or even faster, than Intel has planned for their mobile P4s, not to mention Tualatins. Considering the better pricing for mobiles and high density servers, this has got to have pushed Intel's laundry bills for those silk shorts a lot higher...

Spincter control is very important in a price war.
