That sounds like an awesome idea. Its kind of like the "here is a free cell phone, sign up for two years deal". Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that Echostar manufacturer's or has the manufacturing done relatively inexpensive as compared to the other players. They could offer a straight up swap for the 1000 and then offer the 3000, 4000, and 5000 at discounted prices.

Since the DTV dishes will work with EchoStar receivers, self installation should be relatively easy. I still do not understand why the EchoNet people do not carry receivers in their vans. When you order now, they ship the receiver to the customer and then EchoNet comes out two weeks later to install--hoping of course that the house will have a spot capability of pointing to the satellite.

The web site is also an excellent idea. I believe that they could save thousands by offering web based tech support. The web based support they have now is too slow to respond. When people call in on the 800 number and wait on hold, they are paying at least 7-8 cents a minute. A 20 minute hold time during busy hours means $1.50 down the drain. A web based email is essentially free.

Alot of phone companies are going to get into the web based billing very shortly. I believe MCI may already be doing it.
