McNamara was an architect of the Vietnam War. a conservative hawk from the military-industrial elitist war machine. LBJ, Nixon, McNamara and many others dragged us into that war based on a pack of lies. And along with J. Edgar Hoover and the rightwing CIA zealots, that group in general murdered the Kennedys under whom that war never would have happened.

BTW: These days, LBJ would be a Bush Republican. He was in bed with one company in particular, Brown + Root, now known as Halliburton, the biggest war profiteer of them all, one that considers itself above the law.

Anyway, what McNamara states is that we were actually pushing ourselves in the middle of a civil war and that had disasterous consequences. Similar to what's going on in Iraq now. And both wars were based on lies and misleadership.
