And the actual pregnacies from rape are a much lower percentage than women who have normal sex. So it is not so stupid to assume that their body is doing somthing to prevent the pregnancy.
It could also be because the definition of rape includes a lot of forced sexual acts, not just those that result in ejaculation within the vagina.

I also read somewhere that rapists don't always climax. That goes along with the theory that rape is more about power and less about sex.

I think that the main issue is actually that many reject that one should not abort because of a rape. So they make out like it was a stupid statement.
The main issue was about that, but then the stupid statement itself became the news.

As for the issue of abortion due to a rape, that's a real gray area in my opinion. Certainly if my wife got knocked up due to a rape, I would much rather "abort" the guy responsible, rather than the baby itself.
