I believe when a company's stock price diverges from reality the reversal is more a function of psychology than fundamentals. It is only really clear in hindsight, but by then everybody knows. And then its too late. Your Cpq example in 1Q this year is a good example.

This discussion reminds me of the biology experiment where if you throw a frog into a hot frying pan he will jump out right away. But if you put him into lukewarm water and slowly turn up the heat he will be boiled alive before he can react to the higher heat. That is analogous to the situation investors face when they hold overvalued stocks, IMHO.

My only advice to you is, "Fear not, provided you fear, but if you fear not, then fear." The reason for my original post is that I detect no fear in you at all re IBM, and speaking from experience, that may be a risky posture to take.

So from time to time I suggest taking your temperature to make sure things aren't getting too hot for you.:)
