Sun Professional Services Implements Brocade Switches in SAN Integration Solutions
PALO ALTO, Calif., and SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Sun Microsystems, Inc., SUNW and Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade(R)) BRCD, a leading provider of Storage Area Networking infrastructure, today announced qualification of the Brocade SilkWorm(R) family of Fibre Channel fabric switches for interoperability with Sun StorEdge(TM) T3 and A5200 arrays and Sun Enterprise(TM) and workgroup server configurations. To facilitate the qualification process, both companies set up interoperability labs and conducted extensive testing of the Brocade switches with various Sun server and storage configurations.
Sun Professional Services can deliver Brocade Fibre Channel fabric switches as part of its complete storage area network (SAN) integration solutions. These end-to-end solutions include SAN architectures, implementation including installation of the switches, and integration with Sun server and storage configurations. In addition, Brocade will develop a Jiro(TM) technology management facade to the Brocade Fabric Access layer, which will enable management of Brocade-based SANs through Sun Jiro technology-based management tools.
Jiro technology, an enabler of next generation storage networks, allows customers to gain interoperability benefits with simplified management. Also, Sun will become a Brocade Fabric Access(TM) Partner, which will provide Sun with access to the value-added features of the Brocade Fabric Operating System (Fabric OS(TM)), an intelligent distributed operating system for Brocade-based SANs.
"Joint interoperability testing and qualification of Brocade switches with Sun StorEdge arrays fits perfectly with Sun's strategy for delivering end-to-end solutions," said Janpieter Scheerder, executive vice president for Sun Network Storage. "At the same time, both Sun and Brocade are demonstrating our commitment to open standards, which will provide our customers with best- of-breed solutions in their open storage networks."
"We are pleased to work with Sun to qualify Brocade SAN infrastructure in Sun SAN solutions," said Greg Reyes, Brocade president and CEO. "By providing a Jiro technology management facade to our SAN infrastructure, we will further extend the interoperability of Brocade-based SANs and Jiro technology enabled products from Sun and other providers."
Jiro technology is an open, freely available set of APIs based on the Java(TM) 2 platform that provides developers with an infrastructure for building interoperable end-to-end storage management solutions for heterogeneous environments. Jiro technology was developed through an industry-wide initiative with the goal of delivering technology that enables true integration and platform-independence for the management of storage, servers, applications and devices on networks.
