Sid, really! I thought you had good taste, to go with your superior intellect. :-) That juvenile Ballard site is a candidate for the famous "web sites that suck", see websitesthatsuck.com . After all that time (6 months) and labor, they have still no content!
But they do have plenty of cliches.
1.text on black background -- tells you the age of the designer (16)
2.time-wasting frontpage animated GIF -- not terribly evocative of smog, just takes more time to load the page.
3.lots of talk about the future (word used 4 times in tiny paragraph)
4.lousy grammar in the final cliche, which should say, "A future THAT is closer than you CAN imagine."

For a more dramatic visual effect, Ballard's web designer might think about something like a city bus hidden in smoke that is wiped away with one swipe of a Ballard logo. Set that ani.gif on infinite loop. Maybe add a WAV file to demonstrate diesel noise before and after.
But all those tricks increase loading time. The main purpose of the Ballard site should be to provide information to investors! Give us balance sheets, staffing, research data, links, daily news.

Fred Bealle,
cranky in Toronto :-)

PS. Methanex site, methanex.com , has a lot more meat on its bones.
