So add another regressive tax on the working poor and lower middle class? Contrary to what you may think, I do not want to see the Democratic Party end up like the Whig or Federalist Party.

How do you know this: "It would reduce the use of oil by increasing it's cost... but a matching *decrease* in payroll or income taxes would more then offset the negative effects on economic growth, as our economy is much less sensitive to pricing changes in oil then it previously was."
