Rude, I agree with most of that. Well said.

But I think you are giving both Gates and Jobs too much credit. Both are brilliant, but neither is creative. Rather, each has an uncanny capacity to surround himself with brilliant teams. The difference is in the character of the people they choose. Gates surrounds himself with brilliant and ruthless strategists, while Jobs hires incredibly creative engineers.

If you could take the BEST of Microsoft and Apple, without the worst of each, you could truly change the world. But unfortunately, because Microsoft's ruthless strategists have no creativity, and Apple's brilliant innovators have no marketing savvy, you end up with Microsoft making lots of money but creating nothing, and Apple inventing amazing new classes of technologies without prospering.

In fact, I think Jobs has learned some lessons over the past couple of decades, and is now following an actual long-term marketing strategy. If this is true, the computer world is in for some real treats, and Apple is in for some real profits.
