I think children belong to themselves, at least as soon as they are old enough to run away and maintain themselves. They shouldn't have to hate or kill their parents to do as they wish. I keep dogs who are free to run away if they wish. If they can find a better deal somewhere else, then let them. I should treat my children at least as well as I treat my dogs. (I wouldn't let a puppy make up its own mind). I think Elian (the same age as my grandchild who is in joint custody of her parents) should make the choice where he should stay. His father doesn't own him, didn't notice he wasn't around. Elian fought to stay alive. Now let him live where he wishes. cubanet.org
