MJ: speaking as a person nearing Medicare age, here is the problem. The insurance companies do NOT WISH to insure anyone over a certain age, especially with any kind of preexisting condition (and you will be surprised to learn what they classify as that) basically at all, but even those they will insure the premium is SO GREAT as to be unattainable for most. Thus, I believe it is imperative that Medicare survive, if not we will be FORCED into a National Health Care system such as Canada and others have. jdn
