Mike, you just told us a true story about how MM (Market Maker) can manipulate stock price. Even this is illegal, but it's very hard to prove.

Another factor is how many MMs make a market for a specific stock. The more MMs the more difficult for them to manipulate the price, because they tend to compete to each other for trades. INTC has at least 20 different MMs, but if they still can manipulate the price if they act the same/similar way.

The option expiration day stock price manipulation is a short term factor. A stock will go up/down should base on its fundamental and MMs know this better than anyone else. So if they did artificially press down INTC, then we will see INTC bounce back and go much higher next week. Actually, the very same thing did happen in November expiration day (Nov. 15), and INTC did came back on Tuesday and moved much higher.

Good investing,

Xy
