I definitely think the economy is less reliant on oil, for one thing this is a services economy vs. a manufacturing economy (sick as it was) at the time in the 70s. But I don't have any statistics to back up what I know to be true. I don't really know where to look. eia.doe.gov The answer's in there, I think. If you have the patience for some REAL digging. This is gov't stuff and can take forever just to get an answer to a simple question. I suspect you're right. The 70s oil crisis was 30 years ago, the fact that we haven't gotten off of oil completely after all this time is a travesty imho Come on. Technology and economics. The technology has been and still is expensive. People won't pay 2 or 3 times as much for an inferior result.
