"Economic growth" has to be defined to make a judgement about it.

It's defined well enough.

And using assets, even depleatable assets, its typically positive not negative. If you don't use them you never get the benefit. If you do use them you can create the wealth that enables their successors. If you don't use them you never benefit from them, which is similar to a situation where they never existed in the first place. Besides generally resources don't get used up completely. For example the Earth will never run out of oil from human drilling.
