Frank --
I just had a great conversation with NN and based on what I heard, I've put away Beanie Bear's white bag.
Alan's 2-day swing through the San Francisco Bay area was a great success. Their sponsors, Robertson Stephens, are pounding the streets, getting the story out. They're also hosting another meeting this Friday, this time in Boston, with their own sales persons and analysts, as well as managers from Fidelity, Wellington, Putnam, and State Street, to name a few.
I asked if the uncertainty surrounding the Siemens alliance was causing concern among analysts and he said perhaps with some, but that it's highly unlikely the partnership will come unglued. On the good side, nearly all the products in the alliance are Newbridge's and any changes are being driven by them and not the guys in Munich.
The company is still on track for the quarter. In the near-term they have two or three "half decent" announcements ready to come out. I asked if one would be the exec. VP and was told it was possible.
Speaking of Nortel, he'd heard part of their softness had to do with wireless contracts they'd lost --- BA to LU, and several in Europe to Nokia and Ericsson. Since NN's strong in that sector, NT's problems should have little or no impact. [My words, not his.]
That's it for now.
