I take your point. The climate is not favorable and feasibility is not assured. But if this really is a war, dammit, then it's not good enough to back off from an obstacle. We get in there with American ingenuity and make something happen. No one said it would be easy. If Syria won't negotiate, try someplace else. And if that doesn't work, come up with a different angle and try again.
