Fujitsu says develops flash memory device with AMD

TOKYO, July 27 (Reuters) - Japanese electronics maker Fujitsu Ltd (6702.T) announced on Monday it had developed a 64-megabit flash
memory device in cooperation with Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD) (AMD - news) of the United States.

The device, to be targeted at the high-density data storage market, would be manufactured by the firms' joint venture Fujitsu-AMD
Semiconductor Ltd, Fujitsu said in a statement.

Fujitsu said it planned to begin sample shipments of the device by the end of the year.

The device was made using Fujitsu's 0.25-micron process technology and volume shipments would start in 1999, it said.

The venture would introduce 128 megabit, 256 megabit and higher-density devices in the future, it said.

The new devices were expected to be used in multimedia data storage applications in such products as digital cameras and answering
machines, it said.
