re: smartcards

I got a Blue card from American Express in part because it came with a "smart chip" and a card reader for assistance in secure internet transactions (not that I worry about this). However, the USB smartcard reader doesn't work with Win2K so it has sat in its box for over a year now. This feature is much more limited than the cash on a chip concept.

ps: I haven't yet bought a soda with my cell phone but think this micro-payment scheme will be interesting to try sometime... I can just see explaining it to my 4-year old child! "You want a soda? Just a second, let me call the machine..." Of course when she is 6+ (?) this will all be old stuff.
