You need to be involved in what's going on in school to find out the specifics of your own child's behavior and experience. You may, for example, have taught your child to play nicely with others, but there's this one child, see, that is driving your kid nuts and he or she just doesn't want to talk about it with you. Or, in my son's case, he is easily distractable and often doesn't pay enough attention when directions are given out. We and his teacher decided on a signal to remind him to focus or concentrate. Then there's the broader picture of what's going on in school that can affect your child. If you're not in the loop you or your child can miss out on a lot.
