OK, I see what you mean. But Lieberman is classified as an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, correct? Not actually a Democrat himself.

And if Wilkerson wins will it be up to the Democrats whether they wish to (assuming they keep the majority) to confirm her committee seats or move them to someone in their own party?

In Lieberman's case, I always presumed they left him in position to avoid him jumping ship entirely... given he's gone to the lengths of campaigning for McCain, I think that may change now. Unless he holds the 60th vote, perhaps.
Otherwise he'd be guaranteeing a rather ignominious end if he blocked a substantial Democrat majority out of pique...
