Metrowerks to Provide Tools for Microware's OS-9 Family of Real- Time Operating System Software
DES MOINES, IOWA AND AUSTIN, TEXAS--Metrowerks To Support Embedded Development For Emerging Consumer Electronics and Multimedia Markets
Metrowerks(R) Inc. today announced it has signed an agreement with Microware(TM) Systems Corp. (NASDAQ - MWAR) to extend its popular CodeWarrior(R) development environment to include support for Microware's OS-9(R) real-time operating system, designed for Motorola(R) 68000, PowerPC(TM) and 386/486/Pentium(R) microprocessors.
With over five million copies sold worldwide, OS-9 is a leader in multi-tasking real-time operating systems for mission critical embedded applications, including digital TV, Internet appliances and wireless communications devices.
"We are proud to be working with Microware to extend our embedded tools to support OS-9," says Greg Galanos, president and chief technology officer of Metrowerks. "Now over 20,000 OS-9 developers can enjoy the efficiency and ease-of-use of the award-winning CodeWarrior Integrated Development Environment which has been used to build thousands of desktop applications by some of the largest software vendors in the industry. This new partnership not only reinforces our commitment to the developer community, but also sets the stage for Metrowerks to become a key player in the embedded tools arena."
"CodeWarrior for OS-9 will provide our customers with effective, powerful, easy-to-use development tools for under $500 per seat," says Ken Kaplan, president and chief executive officer of Microware Systems Corp. "This dramatic reduction in cost marks a sea change in the embedded tools industry."
Support for OS-9 will be provided through a new series of development tools announced today in a separate release, entitled CodeWarrior for Embedded Systems. 68K and PowerPC versions of the product, hosted on both Mac(TM)OS and Windows(R), will begin shipping later this year at a suggested retail price of $499. Now, embedded systems developers around the world can benefit from an order of magnitude in savings for full-featured, fully-integrated embedded tools (with C/C++ source-level debugging support), widespread availability, plus a choice of platforms from which to work.
