I would imagine a shareholder is a shareholder regardless of age. I would also imagine that someone who holds no shares in a company, could in no way be considered a shareholder of that company.

Let's see, if I were busy and I had received an e-mail from a shareholder and another one from a NON shareholder who liked to bash my company, who do you think I would respond to first?
