Before the Bell - Futures jump as Citigroup, Unisys rise

NEW YORK, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Equity index futures rose
sharply early on Tuesday as shares of Citigroup Inc. <C.N>
moved higher in pre-open trade after the No. 1 U.S. financial
services firm posted upbeat quarterly earnings.
Shares of Citigroup rose to $32.50 on the Instinet system
in dealings ahead of the official Wall Street open from a close
of $30.31 on Monday. Citigroup on Tuesday before the open
reported higher third-quarter earnings as strong retail lending
results offset problem loans and sluggish trading revenues.
Shares of Unisys Corp. <UIS.N> rose to $8.18 from a close
of $6.76. The computer services and hardware company had higher
earnings as tight cost controls helped improve profits in its
services and hardware divisions even as overall sales fell.
Looking at the broader market, equity index futures were
trading sharply higher across the board. The Nasdaq 100
December contract added 25.50 points to 933 and Standard &
Poor's 500 <.SPX> futures were up 20.40 points at 862 while Dow
futures gained 170 points at 8,028.
