Mark, I just got my Feb. Boot mag. today. Virge/VX showdown between Diamond & STB: STB Velocity 3D beats out the Diamond Stealth 3D 3000XL by as many as 6 million pixels/sec. (at 1280x1024, 8bit color) during windows 2D application test. Also slightly faster in Decent II (21.4 vs 22.8fps). They ran Quake the same (pitifully slow - 640x480 11.7fps; 800x600 9.0fps; and 1024x768 6.2fps). It's also $50 cheaper, list. (4Mb) Both rated a 6. Sound Evolution - Lots of good stuff about the SonicVibes chip! :) S3 claims 100% Sound Blaster compatibility, EVEN ON THE PCI BUS!!! Much faster PCI capable of 100Mb/sec vs. ISA 2 Mb/sec, and much less overhead on CPU 1% vs nearly 30%. Article goes into how they pulled off this Distributed DMA (DDMA) trick. - "It's a major breakthrough." Top right of Front cover say - "DON'T BUY THAT SOUND CARD YET!" The NEXT generation of Audio Technology Unveiled If the MM's keep this one down tomorrow, I think I'll have to scoop up some more. Good Luck, Dave C.
