Because I think a company presenting itself for sale does not necessarily mean that the company is desparate and in need of a bail out. I think it's instructive to see what other companies have done in a similar situation to try to shed some light on their motivations.

I have -- it was a business deal. It had to start somewhere, and evidently it started at NeXT. It may be true that NeXT couldn't thrive on its own, though at $50M in sales and profitability in Q1 1997 it sounds like its on its way. In any case both NeXT and Apple think that they can do better combined rather than each on their own.

We obviously have different opinions on the motivation for this meger, so let's just leave it at that.
