REPEAT/GC Enters Into License Agreement With DMDS for Polymerization Units Based on New LED Technology
DEURLE, Belgium--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2000--DMDS, a developer and marketer of high tech dental equipment, today announced that GC Corporation of Japan has signed a worldwide license agreement for its new, patented Light Emitting Diode (LED) high speed curing technology. GC is one of the world's leading manufacturers and distributors of dental supplies and equipment.

Under the agreement GC will pay $750,000 to DMDS as an advance against royalties for the first six months of a five-year period. DMDS will also use this technology for its own curing unit. The Apollo eLight and Wavelight will be sold through its own selective distribution network.

This wireless, fast curing light is based on an entirely new and extremely efficient light source, namely Light Emitting Diodes or LEDs. Various authorities worldwide have already mentioned LEDs to be the ultimate light source for activating light cured materials in the future. To achieve sufficient power output for polymerization, DMDS developed a unique, patented lens system enabling the LED technology to produce faster curing.

The main benefits are a wireless light source, the long and constant life span, the absence of any heat emanating from the tip, and future upgrades of the unit by means of the Internet. Both companies are teaming up with leading universities and laboratories to create a comprehensive database of product specific ``curing profiles,'' which can be downloaded directly into the unit, which in turn will automatically set the optimum curing properties.

``This partnership will provide a great new platform to make our LED technology the new dental curing standard, which will address growing customer demand for simplifying the procedure for polymerizing photosensitive materials, and therefore improving the quality and timing of restorations,'' said DMDS's CEO Bob Gurevitch.

GC has branches in many countries and is one of the leading manufacturers and suppliers of materials for dentists and dental technicians. In over 100 countries of the world -- indeed globally -- GC sets trends and develops new approaches.

Dental/Medical Diagnostic Systems designs, develops, and sells high technology dental equipment and related consumables. Although only founded in 1996, DMDS has quickly become a leader in applying innovative technology for curing dental materials faster and better.
